We are living in unprecedented times caused by the pandemic of COVID-19 that started in 2020. Unprecedented in so many ways. To name a few of them:
- Health. We are seeing a mass spreading virus that is threatening humanity’s health and wellbeing
- Trust. A crisis of trust in the established world order emerged from the depths of social structure.
- Planning. As Nassim Taleb argues in his book “Antifragile: Things that Gain from Disorder” – we are lacking the proper way to plan our actions. Be it in business, politics, or health. And poor results gain from that.
- Adapting. We are still stubbornly hanging to old ways. And old ways are a great way to fail. Now, don’t get me wrong, traditions are important but foresight is important if want to overcome obstacles.
So back to the point. Which businesses will be able to survive in the current and future economic times?
The answer is simply put, but not that easy to implement. Those that are not relying 100% on just one communication channel and one form of product or service. What I mean by that is that there is a need for a healthy balance between traditional and digital. Organizations that are only offline are already missing out on progress. In the same way, Great Britain was missing out on automating the car manufacturing process back during Margaret Thatcher’s time. And on those days USA, Europe, and Asia were killing it. Japan had 6000 robots that were building cheap and reliable Toyotas while in the UK it was all manual labor. And in the very same way, people were striking against accepting robot workers because of fear they will lose their jobs, and actually, automation created thousands of new jobs because of volume increase, those who are against digital solutions in 2021 will be proven wrong and will miss out on results and growth.
