A few months ago I started thinking that Instagram is in serious problems. The indicator for that was that it kept filling with content from TikTok. That meant it already was the social media for the late majority and laggards. But… there is always a but as we all know from Hollywood movies. But Instagram did what they can do best – they copied the main feature of TikTok in the form of Reels hoping to turn back the users. In the same fashion, they copied the concept of Snapchat a few years ago and created the stories.
Now, the stories turned out to be a great hit. Maybe because that removed the pressure off of making top-quality posts and videos. Now we all have the excuse to just slap a photo and a sticker and call it a story.
TikTok is dead! Or is it?
Already there are people saying that Instagram took its next victim. I don’t feel it though. Not this time.
In the same way, Instagram is the place for artistic photography and stories, the very same way TikTok is the go-to-place for short creative, and entertaining videos. And is the very same way that stories never took off on Facebook.
So let me recap:
Is Instagram dead? No. It will continue to be the place for graphic content and photography.
Is TikTok dead? Hell, no. We are still on the rise of TikTok mainly because the emotional connection that millions of people made with the platform during the first and second COVID-19 waves won’t be easy to override.
